The evaluation framework

The Danish evaluation framework with regard to the environement and health
The Environmental Protection Agency's principles for evaluating the effects of pesticides on health and the environment are outlined in the evaluation framework which was revised in June 2011. This will be used for all applications both before and after 14 June. With regard to applications before this date, there is no need to send in new aquatic exposure scenarios or risk assessments for non-target plants and non-target arthropods.

The revised framework is initially produced in English. The health-related part of the revised evaluation framework currently covers only those areas for which the evaluation practice has been amended.

For the other areas of the health-related evaluation where no change has occurred in connection with the revision, we refer to the evaluation framework as used before 14 June 2011.

Risk assessment for birds, mammals and plant protection products
The Environmental Protection Agency's risk assessment of pesticides with regard to birds and mammals is based on EU guidance documents as outlined in the evaluation framework. Often, there may be a need to perform a risk assessment for particular Danish conditions - also known as a 'higher tier' risk assessment.

To this end, a document has been prepared describing the birds and mammals of relevance in Denmark and presenting scenarios for a series of use areas. The document is linked to a spreadsheet which is used in connection with the scenarios.

Evaluation of efficacy in the North zone
The document is based on Directive 93/71/EEC amending the Commission’s Directive 91/414/EEC on the marketing of plant protection products and the new regulation 1107/2009 for placing of PPP on the market. The document aims to specify the requirements for documentation wherever possible. The references in the text apply to Annex III to the Directive.

The specifications on requirements for documentation and number of trials are intended as a guide to the common requirements for documentation in connection with efficacy evaluation in the Northern Zone. For the purpose of this document the Northern zone is defined as follows; Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway and Sweden.
