Centre on Endocrine Disruptors

As a part of action plans on chemicals 2006-2009 and 2009-2012 activities in relation to endocrine disruptors and combination effects are initiated, including operation of a Centre for Endocrine Disrupters.

The Centre on Endocrine Disrupters was established in 2008 and is an interdisciplinary scientific network without walls.

The main purpose of the Centre is to build and gather new knowledge on endocrine disruptors with the focus on providing knowledge relevant for the preventive work of the authorities.

The Centre also provides advise to the authorities in relation to endocrine disruptors e.g. identification of important knowledge gaps, proposals for future knowledge building activities and providing answers to specific questions in relation to endocrine disruptors.

The activities of the Centre are followed by a steering group with representatives from relevant ministries chaired by the Danish Environmental Protection Agency that also approves the annual working program for the Centre. An international Advisory Board of highly reputed scientists within the field follows the scientific work in order to ensure high scientific quality and coordination with international activities.

The main activities of the Centre are:

  • Coordination of projects
  • Updating the regulatory authorities on new knowledge on endocrine disrupters
  • Annual information meetings
  • Coordination of the Copenhagen Workshops on Endocrine Disrupters (COW)
