Skin allergy – a partner for life

Once you develop skin allergy, it will be with you for the rest of your life. Young people get a taste of what this could mean for them in our major campaign, "Skin allergy - a partner for life".

Good advice about skin allergy

  1. The less you use, the lower risk you have of developing an allergy.
  2. Use less perfume
Use scented products with care. It is safer to use unscented products, e.g. unscented ecolabelled products.

If you want to smell good, use as few scented products as possible. For example, you could use unscented creams and deodorant and then decide to use scented shampoo. If you wear perfume, it is a good idea to wear it on your clothes rather than on your skin. You should first check whether it stains.

Note that "natural"/ecological perfumes can also cause allergies.
  3. Avoid dying your hair, otherwise choose streaks or non-permanent hair dye
It is safest not to dye your hair.

If you do decide to dye your hair, choose a non-permanent hair dye or have it streaked to reduce the risk of the dye coming into direct contact with your scalp.

If you suffer from eczema on your scalp or face, or if you have previously encountered itching, swelling of your face or developed a rash after dyeing your hair, you should not dye your hair.

Hair dyes are not recommended for children/adolescents under 16.
  4. Avoid having a black henna tattoo
Avoid having a black henna tattoo.

If you suffer from a rash after having a henna tattoo done, avoid dyeing your hair and contact a dermatologist to find out what it is you are allergic to.
